LOSMANDY G-11 ADJUSTABLE 12v POLAR SCOPE RETICLE BOX
This is a simple, but very handy little fix to get rid of the AA battery pack that gets in the way when using the illuminated reticle on the polar scope. While I was at it, I went ahead and added a small knob to dim the LED intensity. You can get the parts at your local RadioShack or around the house. Here is whatI used: Radio Shack project box #910-1697, a small SPST toggle switch, a variable resistor I had laying around (about 10k ohm) along with a 1k ohm fixed resistor (1/4 watt), and the existing wire that was used by the old battery pack. The power plug size is 2.1mm/5.5mm to fit the Losmandy power 'out' socket which was obtained from Mouser Electronics. The variable resistor didn't have a knob on it so I took a small electrical cap (used to twist-tie two wires together) and glued it on the top, which made a nice knob. This works for standard G-11's, but when I installed the SkyWalker system, it replaced the G-11 console which leaves you with the question of where do I go for powering the reticle? A quick fix that I am now using is to replace the power plug with a standard RCA type plug commonly used for audio equipment and just plug it into your Kendrick Dew Controller. If you turn the dew controller all the way up to full, you will have a steady 12v supply. Turning it down will slowly blink the power on and off, as is normally done by the controller to vary the voltage to the dew strips. Using the reticle only takes a few minutes at the beginning of a session so you can unplug it after you're aligned to free up the dew controller for normal use.
